Design Brief
This beautiful garden of a lovely red bricked property was in need of renovation and some new ideas. The entrance to the garden was very long and narrow leading to a wider section nearer the house. The rear of the property had a difficult space on a very steep slope with the back door up some steep steps just under a metre in height.
There were a number of items the clients wished to be reused in the garden, some grey and red engineering bricks and a number of original golden hop plants.
The straight path had to be retained but needed to be made buggy friendly. The client wanted a formal style vegetable garden.
The Solution
The long narrow garden was broken into a number of rooms. A hornbeam hedge had already been planted near the entrance to the garden this was retained with some replanting to create two passageways. The now slabbed path was then interrupted by a pergola upon which the hops would grow during the summer. The new path leads to formal vegetable garden and winter garden near the house. To the rear of the property a gravel style garden was created and a raised deck around the house with some large wide steps to allow easy and safe access to the back door.
