The Design Brief
A large red brick detached house with a very large north facing garden on a severe slope with horrendously overgrown shrubs and trees. A tired patio and lawn in need of renovation. The clients wanted a place to eat in the sun (away from the house). A place for their daughter to play safely and enough lawn to play football etc.
The Solution
A figure of eight design for the lawn added some interest and broke up the long length of the garden, while providing interesting shape beds for the plants. A large patio area next to the house gave space for playing on bikes and toddler ride-ons, with a utility area to the left hidden with trellis. A decked seating area was positioned to the rear of the garden to make full use of the evening sunshine, with raised beds surrounding for herbs and grasses. The clients did however change the design to make a larger rectangular lawn which has taken away from the circular design.
