The Design Brief
The old long and narrow garden had been flattened and compacted when the Edwardian house had been renovated, a patio had been laid badly and a lawn full of weeds was growing rampantly. The garden sloped away from the house and therefore needed to be terraced. A conservatory was due to be built and the client wanted a raised deck to step onto from the conservatory, a herb garden, and a vegetable garden. Some lawn was to be retained for the children.
The Solution
The narrow garden was given the illusion of being wider by using a curved path which draws the eye side to side down the garden instead of straight down. A raised deck for enjoying the evening sunshine has been created with a herb garden and steps down to the lawn. The shed is hidden with clematis and a rambling rose growing over an elegant arch which leads to the vegetable garden and further to the workshop and rear parking.
